Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
The gospel of Christ. That is a subject that we could never fully expound upon enough. This is the gospel that saves. It is the gospel that saved rather. It is that gospel, that work, that saved. This gospel carries the power of God to save. Notice it saved those who believe. The salvation comes first, then belief. This gospel is the righteousness of God. It is the work that was accomplished by Christ which culminated in Him declaring from the cross hanging between heaven and earth, it is finished. The gospel message is simply conveyed through two verses in the gospels:
Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.
John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
This is the message; this is the faith of Christ. This is our salvation. When Christ said those 3 words, it is finished, we were saved from our sins. It wasn’t just that, we were saved from the wrath of God.
Another important point Paul makes is that this message of the gospel is for both the Jew first as it was declared to them initially, but also to the Greek.
Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
The gospel has been sent out to the whole word, meaning not just to the Jews but also to the Gentiles. The Messiah long thought by the Jews to be their Messiah was in actuality the savior of the whole world. In saying the whole world, it is meant both Jew and Gentile. This was the message of the completed salvation of those for who Christ had died. The gospel of Christ is the faith of Christ. It is that message of the completed fulfillment of the law and the obedience unto death of the Lord Jesus Christ.
