The Full Satisfaction of God

Separated unto the gospel of God

Romans 1:1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, 2 (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)

The introduction Paul gives us in Romans is so rich a text. He states here that he was separated unto the gospel of God. This gospel is the story of God and His plan to glorify His Son through the redemption of a people.

John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

All creation is to the glory of God. Paul was a part of this glory in the revelation of this gospel to which he was separated. This gospel is seen not only as the gospel of God, but also as:

1 Corinthians 9:12 If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

Romans 1:9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;

Romans 1:15 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.

Romans 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

This gospel is that message to which Paul would live and die.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Here we see Paul’s life from this point on. He lives a new life, one that came by the faith of the Son of God. This faith of Christ is the gospel of God. It is the meritorious work of God the Son to satisfy God the Father and is revealed to us by God the Holy Spirit. This gospel is so eloquently laid out before us in the book of Romans. No other writing gives us the detail set forth here regarding how a man is made right before God.
