Romans 3:9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
All are under sin. The verdict is guilty. Even for those who God loves, all are under sin. The transgression of Adam passed on to all his seed. All are guilty before God. Furthermore, there are none that are righteous in the eyes of God, none. Both Jew and Gentile, neither seek after God. Man seems to think that he can do something to commend himself to God. Nothing could be further from the truth. Man is in a desperate state; a state that he has no power to overcome. Every corner of him is touched by sin and in him there is no righteousness. Only righteousness can please God. The fall of man was not an oversight by God. In fact, before creation God had already purposed the solution to the plight of man.
1 Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
The fall of man gave Christ a people to redeem. Without a fall, how would Christ get glory for His obedience? Without sin, how could there be sinners?
Proverbs 16:33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord.
Psalms 115:3 But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.
Down to the smallest of happenings, God is in control. He is conducting His creation to the end that He has chosen.
