He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Isaiah 53:11
What I want to focus on in this amazing verse is the satisfaction of God. The satisfaction of God can be a daunting thought. What could satisfy the eternal, righteous, and holy God? How can we satisfy God? The short answer to this question is that we cannot. We do not have the ability to satisfy God. That is the problem man faces. How to satisfy God?
Ever since the fall in the garden, man has striven to appease God. Adam and Eve first try and cover there sin with the efforts of their own hands. God quickly shows them that their efforts are not enough and provides a covering through the sacrifice of another. The lesson here was that it was going to take God to satisfy God.
Israel was a chosen nation amongst the earth as Moses states in Deuteronomy 7:
6 For thou art an holy people unto the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. 7 The Lord did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: 8 But because the Lord loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the Lord brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
God instructed His chosen nation to offer sacrifices to Himself. These included a sweet savor offering. This offering was given as a sign of devotion to God. It was a pleasing offering to God as it was not associated with sin as was the sin offering. It was said to be a sweet aroma to God. All the offerings to God were to be of an unblemished male. That was the recipe God had commanded which looked forward to the coming of His Son. All the sacrifices of the Old Testament were but shadows of the sacrifice to come by Jesus Christ. The sweet savor offering was a pleasing sacrifice, which when burnt would be a pleasing aroma to God. In Revelation we read of the prayers of the saints being a sweet aroma unto the Lord.
And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand. Revelation 8:4.
And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. Eph 5:2
Look at this last verse. We see the sacrifice of Christ as a sweetsmelling savour to God. Christ’s dedication to God was unto death and this was a sweet savour to God the Father. All the sacrifices of the Old Testament but pointed to the once for all sacrifice of Christ. This was, as is said in Isaiah 53:11 above, the act that satisfied God. The eternal, righteous, and holy God was satisfied. He had done what we could not. God had taken His most prized possession, a male unblemished, and sacrificed Him unto Himself and was pleased. That was the plan of God in the glorification of the Son. All creation was made to redound to the glory of God. Yes, we benefit from the salvation in Christ but creation was put into motion so that God would be glorified. As Christ was the Lamb foreordained before the foundation of the world, 1 Peter 1:19-20, the plan was to glorify the Son in this way. He would be the sacrifice, the sweet savour offering, the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world and God would be satisfied. So dedicated to God as Jesus that He would say:
Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. Luke 22:42
Christ saw the satisfaction of God as first and foremost what He wanted to accomplish. That was His faithfulness to God the Father. That faith led Him to the cross. That walk was His faith. By faith Christ would cry out handing there:
And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. Luke 23:46.
Faith, it took His faith to save. That is what occurred at the cross. God the Father was satisfied by the faith, the body of work, of Christ. Christ’s obedience/faith unto death satisfied God. How do we know that God accepted that sacrifice? We know this because God raised Him from the dead. If God was not satisfied, then Christ would not have been raised. This is the primary purpose of this website. It is to share Christ and Him crucified. It is to see Him raised to life and seated at the right hand of God. It is to see Christ in His power and might given all authority. It is to call all those chosen in Him to belief. That is the goal with the information contained within hisfaithalone.com. It is to show believers today that the work is done. It is to show those who may not know Christ that He is a fully capable savior and has satisfied God. God is not waiting on us to finish the job for Christ has already cried It is finished. Look to Him, look to the finished work of the Son of God. Look to the one who sits beside God. Look to the one with the name above every name for He is the way, He is the truth, and He is the life and none can come to the Father except by Him.
