The Full Satisfaction of God

Creation cries out

Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Creation shows mankind that God exists. Paul is showing us here the just condemnation that God would have toward Gentiles. Creation cried out that God existed. Hearing these cries man invented all manner of gods. The Roman society for example had a myriad of gods. Man could see that he was not alone. Man could even sense the judgment God had toward himself. These gods would be appeased with various sacrifices. Man saw that God existed, man saw that there was need for restoration between God and man. Man would turn from the one true God and make god in his own image. Man would devise those ways in which he could appease these gods. He would even take the creation and worship that which was created. In the preceding section we saw that man cannot know God. God reveals Himself to whom He chooses. As man cannot know God but creation cries out that He exists, man will suppress the truth of God and devise a god of his own choosing. Today the idolatry of man is to idolize himself. To choose those ways that indebt God to man. To worship the will of man. They have taken the glory of the incorruptible God and made it into an image like unto corruptible man. They have taken what man can do and replaced it with what God has done. This is the reason that God’s wrath is revealed. The reason for wrath is that sinners exist.
