The Full Satisfaction of God

Where no law is

Romans 4:15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

This verse is so much comfort to those who see Christ as their salvation. We see two contrasting ideas. There is the law. If you approach God in the law, there can only be wrath for you. If you come to God with any conditions, you will find that there is nothing in you that impresses God. The law was not given so that you could work to get to God. The law was given to point you to Christ. Outside of Him there is no hope.

Where there is no law; take that statement and dwell on it for a moment. How can there be no law?

Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Christ has taken that law that was against us and removed the penalties that we should have suffered. In fact, our standing with the law is quite the opposite now. Looking back to the end of Romans 3 Paul says we establish the law in verse 31. We establish the law because that one who stood in our place fulfilled the law in our place. What we must realize is that all the benefits that Christ earned are now ours. They are ours because He earned them for us. It was just as if you or I hung there and paid the penalty for sin and earned righteousness. That is what Christ was doing. That is what the faith has brought.

1 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, 10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

It was the purpose of God to give us these things, but it took the coming of Christ to accomplish what was needed for that to occur. The gospel sheds light on what Christ has done. The gospel reveals the righteousness of God; that righteousness earned and established by Christ. We see the results of the law of works which is death versus the law of faith which is life. Because Christ fulfilled the law for us, Paul could then proclaim in Romans 8:

Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Rest in that faith which He has worked out. Faith that saved us. Rest in Christ as He would say in the gospel of Matthew:

Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
